Our Approach to Type

Image Metaphor Type Wall Poster™

Whether you are looking to improve workplace communication and teamwork, or simply to help team members gain self-awareness, our distinctive approach and proprietary Type products – the Eight Jungian Function Image Metaphor Cards   – help you bring Type to life. We take Type “out of the box” so you can make it useful and practical in your organization.

Our distinctive approach to facilitating Type has evolved over almost 20 years of MBTI® training and coaching, for thousands of people, at all organizational levels across industries. When we facilitate Type, we find time and time again, that most people who have previously taken the assessment can’t remember their Type or what it means; they have missed the opportunity to apply Type and make it practical at work and in every-day life.

To address this training gap, we have developed a way to weave Jungian Type concepts into every MBTI® Workshop , whether it be an Introductory Session or an Advanced Type Application. Our products are tangible and easy to use educational tools and practical take-aways that help you and your team to keep Jung’s theory in the forefront.

We work from three fundamental Jungian principles to help you understand and put Type to work:

  • The Dominant Function, or leading function of each Type is the guiding force of the personality, and where we expend most of our energy

Myers‘ 4-letter Type Code  helps us identify our primary source of energy, which is known as our Dominant, or leading function. Jung described the Dominant Functions in his theory of Psychological Types. Understanding our Dominant Function allows us to see where our energy primarily resides, and how we can tap our underused energy sources within, to grow and develop. Once we know our type, we can understand where we might be stuck, and how to choose to direct our energy differently when needed.

  • Our personality Type is fluid – its about our mental energy – where our energy naturally flows, and how we maintain and balance our energy in the world

Myers assessment was created to help make Jung’s Types useful. She created 16 different Types, or energy patterns for taking in information and making decisions in the inside and outside worlds. Our 4-letter Type Code, helps us understand how we prefer to process information – and distribute that energy – perceive and judge – in the inside and outside worlds – and how others may be different. When we select the 4-letter type code that fits us best, we can understand our own mental patterns and learn to appreciate and leverage those around us who provide different perspectives.

  • Practical application from the start is essential

Many times groups come to us to conduct Introductory MBTI workshops for their team or organizational groups. We make sure that we identify your primary goals in order to customize your session to meet your needs. Our workshops, even the introductory sessions, are customized to meet the need of our clients so we are helping to implement practical solutions from the start.

By incorporating Jungian concepts into our Type workshops, we help people see the fluidity and usability of Type.  When we are conscious of the Functions that are easy to use and those that are harder to engage, we have a choice – a choice to tap into different perspectives and engage those functions which are the most appropriate for the situation. Learning to balance the psychological Functions of Type can inform all aspects of organizational behavior leading to more informed and therefore productive team work and more effective organizations.
