Title: Using Personality Type to Enhance Communications and Sales Effectiveness
Date: Friday February 19, 2010
Place: IMC-Philly
When we communicate with prospective clients most of us have been trained to think about how our professional services can help them solve problems and produce results. Very few of us consciously focus on the manner in which we approach our clients from a personal, rather than a service offering, standpoint. We know that effective communication is critical for success in consulting, but we are often unaware of how our own personality and innate biases tend to color our interaction style and hinder us from closing a deal or getting results.
This presentation will provide you with basic personality type concepts that can enhance your sales process and long term client relationships from a personal presentation perspective. It will provide you with an overview of the primary people issues in any buying process, including:
- How clients differ with respect to how they prefer to be approached, how they gather information and how they make decisions.
- The different “languages” that people speak and how listening through a “Type Lens” can help you uncover hidden issues and needs.
- What you can do to “flex your style” and meet the personal approach needs of those you are selling to.
Most importantly, this presentation will provide you with a framework for looking at communication differences so that you can begin to consciously apply the concepts right away in your next client interactions and presentations.

Leaders in today’s workplace are experiencing a level of stress that is unprecedented. They are challenged
to regroup, restructure, refocus and reinvent, while simultaneously downsizing, outsourcing and/or tightening
the budget. Experts agree that what is called for is: (1) enhanced communication and (2) more effective decision making.
This workshop will provide a pragmatic map for you to become proactive in both areas. In this workshop you will:
- See how you and others are inclined to operate in the best of times as well as under stress in order to manage these tendencies appropriately
- Begin to recognize your innate problem solving and communication preferences and how to adjust your
preferences to reach more people
- Learn a comprehensive problem solving model that incorporates all aspects of type
Title: Using Type Dynamics and Development in Coaching
Date: September 26, 2009
Place: Strayer University, Springfield, PA
Time: 9:30 – 1:00 PM
Many type practitioners and coaches use the MBTI® to help people understand who they are and how their type may impact their communication style, how others perceive them, their roles on teams and their leadership styles. Yet many of us tend to stick to using the MBTI preferences of E/I, S/N, T/F and J/P in our coaching engagements. There is no doubt that the use of the MBTI preferences are helpful to people, but the power of the MBTI lies in the Jungian theory behind the type code. That is what Isabel Myers wanted us to understand.
When we use Type Dynamics in our coaching, we are accessing Jung’s 8 functions and how they interact within each of the 16 types. When we use the theory of type development, we are unleashing powerful information about how we move through life’s stages. Both of these aspects of psychological type bring more richness and depth to the people we coach in all aspects of workplace coaching: developing skills, improving performance, solving conflict, increasing self-awareness and emotional intelligence, and in learning to be better team players and leaders.
This workshop is appropriate for all levels of certified type practitioners and anyone that uses type in coaching in organizations.
This workshop will cover:
- The basics of type dynamics and definitions of the 8 mental functions
- A review of the type code and how to access the top four mental functions for each type
- How and why our psychological type can be used as the foundation for our coaching engagements
- The impact that our own type has on how we coach others
- How to develop an approach to reach each of the 8 dominant mental functions
- The benefits of using type dynamics and Jungian theory in conjunction with performance feedback and multi-rater reviews
- The basics of type development and how age and stage of life can affect our clients
Title: Enhancing Self-Awareness and Communication through the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® and Psychological Type
Date: September 14, 2009
Place: ACAC fitness & wellness center, West Chester PA
Time: 7:00 PM
This program will present an overview of Carl Jung’s theory of human personality which is called psychological type, and how we can access the theory through the personality indicator called the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. We will talk about how the MBTI captures Jung’s theory, why the indicator was created, what it can help us understand about ourselves and others, and how personality type can be used to help us understand and communicate with others more effectively, both personally and in the work place.
This workshop will cover:
- How we take in information and make decisions
- The natural direction of our energy flow
- How we operate in the outside world
- Communication styles associated with different types
- How we can increase our ability to truly “listen”
- How we can appreciate the gifts of all the MBTI preferences
